St. Mary’s Glacier

At an elevation around 10k feet, we started the hike just as it began to lightly snow, on this late fall evening. We began our 2 mile trek to what looked like a dried up creek bed with a layer of fresh snow over it. The terrain wasn’t all to bad in fact, it was just warm enough that the rocks weren’t slippery and acted as sturdy foot holds. With the snow slowly falling it was a perfect scene for photos and the mile hike there was just too short. Arriving to the lake you were surrounded by the mountains and these massive bare trees. A unique scene for sure. As we explore the frozen lake and the area around it we noticed more and more people trying to hike the glacier.

We also noticed a snowboarder and his dog. There wasn’t quite enough snow to snowboard down the glacier so this was the alternative.

As we walked on the lake we began to notice just how far away we were from civilization. With the mountains toppling over us and the clouds rolling in with the snow continuing to fall, it was a moment I will remember. The hike back was easy and the snow seemed to never stop which made these moments very cinematic.
